Dominant first half pushes Bay Port past Appleton West football

SUAMICO – Bay Port scored four touchdowns in the opening quarter and went on to defeat Appleton West 41-21 in a Fox River Classic Conference North Division football matchup Thursday night at Bay Port High School.

Matt Stevens tossed a pair of touchdowns and Jackson Otradovec ran for two more in the first half as the Pirates (3-1, 2-0 FRCC North) opened up a 35-0 lead.

Appleton West managed to get its passing game going in the second half as Conner Navis threw three touchdown passes, including a 46-yarder to Chase Verboomen, a 42-yarder to Parrion Peace and a 12-yard TD to Payton Weidman.

Navis finished 19-for-27 for 232 yards, with Verboomen hauling in five catches for 82 yards for the Terrors (1-3, 0-2 FRCC North).

Appleton West will be back in action Friday, Sept. 20, at Green Bay Southwest (0-4, 0-2 FRCC North).
