De Pere/West De Pere shuts out Appleton United in Division 1 boys hockey regional semifinal

DE PERE – The Appleton United boys hockey team was held to 16 shots on goal, all of which were saved by De Pere/West De Pere goaltender Keegan Handrick, and the Voyageurs pitched a 3-0 shutout in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal Tuesday at the De Pere Ice Center.
No. 5 seed De Pere/West De Pere (13-10-1) moves on to a Division 1 reginal final at No. 4 West Bend (18-7) on Thursday. Appleton United, seeded 12th in the Sectional 2 bracket, finishes its season with an 8-16 record.
The game was scoreless until Grant Butrymowicz scored on a power play with 6:15 remaining in the second period.
Griffin Wehausen tacked on a goal 3½ minutes later, and Butrymowicz knocked in another goal with 1:07 left in regulation to pad the lead for the Voyageurs.
Brandon Tobak finished with 61 saves in goal for Appleton.
