Bleck, Gwiazdon combine on no-hitter for Appleton Post 38 Legion baseball in win over Bay Port

SUAMICO – Parker Bleck and Michael Gwiazdon combined on a five-inning no-hitter as the Appleton Post 38 Legion baseball team shut out Bay Port 10-0 on Thursday at Islewild Park.

Bleck struck out nine over four innings and Gwiazdon finishing off the no-hitter with a scoreless fifth as Appleton evened its season record at 4-4.

Post 38 scored four runs after two were out in the second inning to grab the lead.

Nick Bergin had a two-run single, and after a pair of hit batters, Alex Ramus knocked in two more with another hit to put Appleton on top 4-0.

Appleton poured on six more runs in the fourth on just two hits. Bay Port committed three errors in the inning and hit two more batters to help Post 38 with a big rally.

Alex Brokaw knocked in two with a single, Geoffrey Brown and Brokaw scored on an error, and Gwiazdon drove in Logan Hudson to up Appleton’s lead to 10-0.

“We had timely hitting with runners on and an aggressiveness on the basepaths drove the offense,” Appleton coach Trent Whitcomb said.

Appleton Post 38 returns to action Sunday when it hosts a doubleheader against Wausau beginning at noon at Don Hawkins Field.
