Bay Port shuts down Appleton East softball

APPLETON – Bay Port used a five-run second inning to push past Appleton East 6-1 in a nonconference softball game Friday at Appleton East High School.
The big inning was enough for the Pirates (2-3), who rode the arm of pitcher Sydney Rau the rest of the way. Rau finished with seven strikeouts and only one walk, giving up four hits in the victory.
Appleton East (0-4) scored its only run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Sarah Broeckert drove in Torie Neubauer with a single.
The Patriots will be back in action at home Tuesday against Kimberly.
