Bay Port downs Fox Cities Stars in WIAA Division 1 boys hockey regional semifinal

ASHWAUBENON – Bay Port scored in the final minute of the second period to break open a scoreless game, added another in the opening seconds of the third and went on to defeat the Fox Cities Stars 4-1 in a WIAA Division 1 boys hockey regional semifinal Tuesday at the Cornerstone Community Center.

Bay Port (7-17-1), the No. 7 seed in the Division 1 Sectional 2 bracket, moves on to a regional final matchup at No. 2 Fond du Lac St. Mary’s Springs (19-5) on Thursday at BlueLine Ice Arena.

Grant Forgette scored with 14 seconds to go in the second period and Tyler Wempe added a goal just 21 seconds into the third to give Bay Port a 2-0 lead.

Wempe added another goal before Xander Herron got the Stars (13-11) on the board with 1:59 remaining in the game.

Fox Cities pulled its goalie and Wempe was able to knock in another to finish a hat trick for the Pirates.

Elliot Reichenbacher finished with 24 saves in goal for the Stars.
