Appleton West’s Collin Evers wins playoff to earn state tournament berth at WIAA Division 1 boys golf sectional

HOBART – Appleton West senior Collin Evers is heading to state after winning a playoff and securing the final individual berth at a WIAA Division 1 boys golf sectional on Tuesday at Thornberry Golf Club.
Evers, who shot a 77, defeated Pulaski’s Dixon Holewinski on the first playoff hole to clinch a spot at the 2024 WIAA State Boys Golf Championships at the Meadows at Blackwolf Run in Kohler, which will be held June 3-4.
West De Pere’s Mason Haupt was the individual sectional champion after firing a 4-under par 68, which was two shots better than Bay Port’s Preston Lamirande.
Bay Port won the team title with a score of 308, one shot in front of host Green Bay Notre Dame as the two teams earned automatic state tournament berths.
Haupt, Kimberly’s Chance Rill (76) and Evers secured the three individual state tournament berths.
Appleton West finished seventh in the team standings with a 340 as Prestynn Evers added an 84, Lucas Downs had an 85, Graham Goldschmidt shot a 94 and Austin Arizola had a 95 for the Terrors.
Appleton East senior Jadon Geerts fired an 84 and Appleton North sophomore Jon Huenink shot an 87 as they saw their seasons come to an end.
