Appleton West girls runners shine at Mishicot Cross Country Invitational

MISHICOT – The Appleton West girls cross country team had a strong showing with three top-15 finishes and a runner-up spot in the team standings at the Mishicot Invitational on Thursday at Mishicot High School.
Kiel won the girls team title with 97 points with Appleton West taking second with 147. Fox Valley Lutheran also had a nice day, taking fourth with 175 points in the 27-team event.
Green Bay Notre Dame’s Anna Miller won the girls race in 19:19.65, four seconds in front of Appleton West’s Lucie Fouts (19:23.42). Morgan Breed placed 10th in 20:16.11 and Roseanna Dane was 15th in 20:36.55 as well for the Terrors.
Claire Fisher took 17th in 20:38.49 and Rowen Volhard was 27th in 21:08.26 to lead the FVL girls.
Notre Dame won the boys team title with 56 points, led by race winner Joseph Hunt (16:09.71). Fox Valley Lutheran was 14th and Appleton West 17th among the 29 complete teams.
Kegan Phalin was 17th in 17:32.58 and Maxwel Hein placed 42nd in 18:06.60 to lead the West boys.
FVL’s top runners were Mason Dobberstein (56th, 18:20.77) and Tom Needham (65th, 18:42.27).
Appleton West will compete at the Pulaski Invitational and Fox Valley Lutheran will be at the Waupaca Invitational on Oct. 3.
