Appleton West baseball wins season-opener over Oshkosh North

APPLETON – Loren Georger and Michael Gwiazdon combined on a one-hitter as the Appleton West baseball team opened its season with a 4-1 win over Oshkosh North on Saturday at Fox Cities Stadium.
Georger allowed one run and one hit in four innings, striking out nine to earn the victory, and Gwiazdon picked up the save with three shutout innings and three strikeouts. Neither West pitcher walked a batter and the Terrors did not commit an error.
Appleton West pulled ahead 2-1 in the second innings on a two-run single by Riley Verboomen.
Blayton Will had an RBI double in the fourth and Ryder Hoffman scored on a fielder’s choice grounder by Riker Blahnik in the fifth to finish off the scoring for the Terrors, who were playing their season-opener.
Appleton West is back in action Tuesday at Hortonville.
