Appleton West baseball jumps on Appleton East early, secures road win

APPLETON – Michael Gwiazdon and Dexter Gerard combined in a three-hitter and the Appleton West baseball team ended a four-game losing streak with a 9-2 victory over Appleton East on Thursday at East High School.
Loren Georger hit a solo home run in the top of the first and Gwiazdon had a two-run double to spark a five-run second for the Terrors, who went up 6-0 and never looked back.
Mason Peterson added an RBI single and Georger knocked him in with a sacrifice fly to complete the big inning for Appleton West, which moves to 2-4 overall and 2-3 in the Fox Valley Association.
Rylan Winkler had an RBI double in the second inning and a run-scoring single in the sixth to provide Appleton East (1-6, 1-4 FVA) with two of its hits and both of its runs.
Carter Aldrich and Georger each finished with two hits for the Terrors.
Appleton West will play at Kimberly on Friday, while East is off until Tuesday when it plays at Neenah.
