Appleton United boys hockey tops Sheboygan for first win of season

APPLETON – The Appleton United boys hockey team picked up its long-awaited first win of the season with a 4-3 victory over Sheboygan in a nonconference game Saturday at the Appleton Family Ice Center.
Jack Kangas scored on a power play with 3:33 remaining in regulation to provide the game-winner for Appleton, which moves to 1-14 this season.
Hans Ridlehoover scored late in the first period and added another midway through the second, and Nick Elliot had a power play goal seconds later, to give Appleton a 3-1 lead.
Sheboygan fought back, tying the game on a goal by Brady McAndrews 6:32 into the third before Kangas’ goal won it for Appleton.
Brandon Tobak had 40 saves in goal for Appleton.
Appleton United will play at Fond du Lac Springs in a Badgerland Conference game Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
