APPLETON – The Appleton United boys hockey team survived a late-goal that sent the game to overtime and defeated Waupaca 2-1 in a nonconference game Friday night at the Appleton Family Ice Center.
Birk Kozlowicz scored late in the first period to put Appleton up 1-0 and that lead held until the final minute when Waupaca’s Parker Saunders tied the game with just four seconds to go in regulation.
However, Appleton (5-9) quickly recovered as Henry Heathman knocked in the game-winner 58 seconds into overtime off assists from Gunther Kelbert and Brayden Coda.
Brandon Tobak saves 37 shots in goal for Appleton.
