Appleton United boys hockey rallies to defeat Waupun

WAUPUN – The Appleton United boys hockey team overcame a two-goal deficit and defeated Waupun 3-2 in its Badgerland Conference opener Friday night at the Waupun Ice Arena.

After surrendering two goals, goalie Brandon Tobak helped Appleton stay in the game. The senior finished with a whopping 45 saves, including 19 in the third period alone, as Waupun held a 47-16 shot advantage.

Waupun led 2-0 after a goal with 3:44 remaining in the second period before Appleton got to work.

Birk Kozlowicz scored 1:14 later, and Tyler Bishop and Henry Heathman had goals scored 39 seconds apart in the third period to put Appleton ahead for good.

Appleton will host Fond du Lac for another conference game Tuesday at the Appleton Family Ice Center at 8 p.m.
