Appleton United boys hockey can’t hold on to early lead, falls to Ashwaubenon

APPLETON – The Appleton United boys hockey team suffered its ninth loss in a row with a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Ashwaubenon on Friday night at the Appleton Family Ice Center.
Appleton looked poised to grab its first win, going up 2-0 early in the second period after two goals from Kenny Kapheim, but Ashwaubenon nailed home five unanswered goals, four in the third period, to pull away.
Landon Larson had two assists and goalie Brandon Tobak made 55 saves for Appleton (0-9).
Conner Viau had two goals, and Charlie Laurent had two goals and two assists for Ashwaubenon (6-3-1).
Justin Pintar made six saves in goal for the Jaguars.
Appleton United will play in the Hartland Arrowhead Tournament next week with games against Beaver Dam on Wednesday, and a doubleheader with Arrowhead and Mequon Homestead on Thursday.
