Appleton Post 38 rolls past Sheboygan in Class AAA Legion regional opener

APPLETON – Appleton Post 38 had the bats going, scoring four early runs, and cruised to an 11-2 win in its opening game of the Class AAA American Legion baseball regional on Wednesday night at Don Hawkins Field.

Logan Hudson allowed two runs over six innings, striking out five, and added two hits on offense as Post 38 (9-11) moves on to a winners’ bracket game Thursday night at 8 p.m. against Manitowoc, which was a 6-3 winner over Neenah on Wednesday.

Ethan Wick had an RBI single in the second inning, and two-out singles from Reed Flick and Alex Brokaw plated three more runs in the third to give Appleton a 4-0 lead.

Leading 5-2 after six innings, Post 38 poured on six more runs to finish off the victory.

Nick Bergin walked with the bases loaded, Brandon Schopf had a three-run double, Alex Ramus followed with another BRI double and he scored on an error to make it 11-2.

Quinn Comerford worked around an error to retire Sheboygan in the seventh to end it.

Flick finished with three hits as Appleton pounded out 11 in the victory.
