Appleton Post 38 Legion baseball drops first two games at Carol Stream Tournament

CAROL STREAM, Ill. – The Appleton Post 38 Senior American Legion baseball team dropped a pair of heartbreakers on Friday as the three-day Carol Stream (Ill.) Tournament kicked off.

Barrington scored a run in the first inning and held on for a 1-0 win over Appleton in the opening game.

Appleton then allowed three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning of its second game of the day against host Carol Stream and lost 5-4, falling to 1-3 this season.

Appleton was held to three hits in the opening game – singles by Geofrey Brown, Michael Gwiazdon and Alex Brokaw.

A triple and a wild pitch led the game’s only run in the first inning and Parker Bleck suffered the hard-luck loss for Appleton as he finished with five strikeouts and two walks in four innings.

Against Carol Stream, Post 38 scored three times in the fourth inning and tacked on another in the sixth to take a 4-1 lead before Carol Stream came back and grabbed the walk-off win on an RBI single by Wyatt Sabalaskey.

Ryan Tesch went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, and Isaac Schultz and Brandon Schopf each added two this, with Schultz driving in three in the loss for Appleton.

The tournament will continue Saturday as Post 38 takes on Palos Heights (Ill.) and FattFro of Lake Barrington, Ill., at 8:45 a.m. and 11 a.m.
