Appleton North’s Stoffel wins title, named Outstanding Wrestler at Mid-State Wrestling Tournament

WHITEWATER – Appleton North’s Jake Stoffel continued his perfect season, winning the 175-pound title and earning the Outstanding Wrestler award at the Mid-State Wrestling Tournament, which was held Friday and Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Stoffel improved to 20-0 as he defeated Illinois state champ and University of Wisconsin commit Matt Jens 2-1 to capture his third consecutive title at the 43-team tournament.

Appleton North also had four others finish in the top 12 of their respective weight classes as the Lightning took 15^th place in the team standings.

Braden Lewis (138 pounds) finished eighth, Tyson Salm (144) took 10^th, and Cooper Krysiak (113) and Ezra Bowman-Barnes (165) each ended up 12^th for Appleton North.

North’s Jax Esser, Pablo Salinas and Cam Chudacoff fell one match short of qualifying for the second day of the tournament.

Appleton North will enjoy some time away from competition before heading back into Fox Valley Association action Thursday, Jan. 11, with a double-dual at Fond du Lac against Appleton East and Oshkosh West.
