Appleton North’s Huenink wins medalist honors, Appleton West ties for first at Wautoma Boys Golf Invitational

WAUTOMA – Appleton North sophomore Jon Huenink shot a 77, braving the windy and cold conditions on Friday to win the Wautoma Boys Golf Invitational at Waushara Country Club.

Huenink finished two shots in front of Wautoma’s Trey Reilly and three ahead of Berlin’s Alex Johnson to earn medalist honors.

Prestyn Evers finished fourth with an 82 and was one of three Appleton West golfers to finish in the top 10 as the Terrors tied for first place with Berlin with a 345. Berlin won the tiebreaker based on the score of the teams’ fifth golfer.

Appleton East placed third with a score of 353, with Appleton North ending up eighth with a 363.

Austin Arizola finished ninth with an 86 and Graham Goldschmidt tied for 10th with an 87 for Appleton West.

Owen Lutes led Appleton East with an 87 as he ended up in the four-way tie for 10th.

All three Appleton teams will compete at the Appleton City Meet, along with Xavier and Fox Valley Lutheran, on Monday at North Shore Golf Club.
