Appleton North’s Flanagan wins 100-yard breaststroke at WIAA Division 1 Girls Swimming & Diving Championships

WAUKESHA – Appleton North senior Ana Flanagan won the 100-yard breaststroke and placed seventh in the 50 freestyle to earn two of five top-10 finishes for the Lightning at the WIAA Division 1 Girls State Swimming & Diving Championships on Saturday at Waukesha South High School.
Flanagan won the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.20 with teammate Maddie Loken taking fifth in 1:04.36, and Flanagan also placed seventh in the 50 freestyle in 23.69 as the Lightning placed seventh in the team standings, which was won by Middleton.
Flanagan and Loken were also part of two Appleton North relay teams that finished in the top 10. The combination of Flanagan, Loken, Elise Brazzale and Afton Scoresby took third in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:36.22, and eighth in the 200 medley relay in 1:47.45.
Brazzale took 13th in the 100 butterlfy in 58.00, Scoresby finished 14th in the 50 freestyle in 24.18 and 17th in the 100 freestyle in 53.29, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Brazzale, Sophia Golub, Aeryn Weber and Loken placed 20th in 3:41.05 for the Lightning.
Appleton East/Hortonville/Kaukauna’s Ava Strassburg took 21st in the diving preliminaries with 459.70 points, and Appleton West/Kimberly freshman Luciana Blair was 24th with 234.70 points.
West/Kimberly’s other state meet entrant, senior Calle DeBruin, finished 21st in the 500 freestyle in 5:19.71.
