Appleton North wins four events, earns 21 sectional qualifiers at WIAA Division 1 Track & Field Regional

APPLETON – Appleton North won four events and had 21 sectional qualifiers after top-four finishes at the WIAA Division 1 Track & Field Regional on Monday at Appleton North High School.

The top four finishers in each event qualify for Thursday’s D-1 sectional at West De Pere, with the top four in each event there qualifying for the 2024 WIAA State Track & Field Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on May 31-June 1.

Maisey Bojarski won the girls long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 3 inches, Ashley Parrish won the girls 200 meters in 25.82, Sophie Scherwinski won the girls 3,200 meters in 11:30.80, and Adrion Rogers was first in the boys long jump with a jump of 19-11¾ to capture regional titles for Appleton North.

Appleton West also picked up a regional title as Tyce Scheetz won the boys 800 in 2:00.19. Roseanna Dane was the only other West athlete to qualify for sectionals as she placed fourth in the girls 1,600 in 5:31.95.

Appleton East had four individuals move on to sectionals in six events, and also a boys relay team.

Adrian Scaife qualified in three events for the Patriots, placing second in the boys 110-meter hurdles (15.60), and third in the 300 hurdles (41.79) and long jump (19-5¼).

Also earning spots in sectionals for East are the boys 800 relay team of Kyreese White, Austin Jackson, Logan Spalding and Austin Jones (fourth, 1:33.24), White in the 100 (second, 11.10), Birk Kozlowicz in the boys 400 (second, 53.24), Finn Hanson in the boys triple jump (second, 41-3), and Mikayla Koenig in the girls shot put (second, 36-7½).

The Appleton North girls will be well represented at sectionals. In addition to the four winners, moving on for the Lightning are: the 3,200 relay team of Scherwinski, Sophie Busch, Lauren Podlasek and Ava Helmbrecht (second, 9:46.12), Parrish in the 100 (second, 12.63), Bella Tabbert in the high jump (second, 5-2), Allison Schinke in the triple jump (second, 34-1/2), Busch in the 400 (third, 1:02.45), the 400 relay team of Bojarski, Ashley Parris, Tarynne Pettinger and Emily Thompson (third, 49.73), Nora Waddel in the high jump (third, 5-0) and pole vault (fourth, 11-0), and Isabel Parrish in the 300 hurdles (fourth, 49.00).

In addition to Rogers winning the long jump, he also placed third in the high jump (third, 6-0) and will be joined at sectionals by North teammates: Peter Olson in the 1,600 (second, 4:39.18), Mark Lynch in the 300 hurdles (second, 41.22), Caleb Hardy in the 3,200 (second, 9:59.28), the 3,200 relay team of Olson, Teddy Koelling, Hardy and Riley Szymik (second, 8:19.12), Szymik in the 800 (third, 2:02.04), Abraham Tomori in the triple jump (third, 41-2¼), and the 400 relay team of Lucas Scharenbroch, Oliver Hestres, D.J. Wilson and Brady Lamon (fourth, 44.65).
