APPLETON – Payton Willenkamp singled home Lila Griffith with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Appleton North softball team its second walk-off win in as many days as it defeated Neenah 3-2 on Tuesday at North High School.
A day after earning a 4-3 win over Fond du Lac with a run in its final at-bat, the Lightning did it again.
North tied the game at 2-2 on Tatum Begg’s RBI single in the fifth and won it in the seventh, rallying with two outs. Griffith singled, Beggs walked and Willenkamp laced a base hit up the middle to plate the winning run and give the Lightning (4-6, 3-5 FVA) their third-straight victory.
Griffith finished 3-for-4 and Beggs 2-for-3 in the win for Appleton North.
Ella Nissen picked up the pitching win, scattering six hits with no walks in a complete-game effort.
Appleton North will travel across town to play at Appleton East on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
