Appleton North softball snags walk-off win over Fond du Lac

APPLETON – Tatum Beggs’ sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning plated the winning run and gave the Appleton North softball team a 4-3 walkoff win over Fond du Lac on Monday at North High School.
Fond du Lac led 3-0 after two innings as Susan Vokes smacked a two-run home run in the opening inning and Maddy Gau had a sac fly in the second.
The Lightning (3-6, 2-5 FVA) fought back, tying the game at 3-3 in the fourth. Callie Weber led off with a double, Schwarz followed with a single and both came around to score after a groundout and an errors. North tied it on an RBI single by Alyssa Wald.
The score remained tied until the seventh when Wald and Lila Griffith had singles and Beggs hit a fly ball to center to send home the game-winner.
Ella Nissen earned the pitching win with three shutout innings in relief.
Appleton North will host Neenah on Tuesday.
