Appleton North softball slips past Bay Port in nine innings

SUAMICO – Ava Weber smacked an RBI double in the top of the ninth inning to give the Appleton North softball team a 5-4 win over Bay Port in a nonconference matchup Friday at Bay Port High School.
The Lightning scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to take a 4-1 lead only to see Bay Port (1-1) respond with three runs to send the game to extra innings.
In the ninth, Charlotte Radtke led off with a single. Courtesy runner Sawyer Haessly moved up to second on an error and scored on Weber’s double to center.
Radtke finished off the win, sending down Bay Port in order in the bottom of the ninth, earning a complete-game win with 10 strikeouts and three walks.
Lila Griffith had two of North’s eight hits.
Appleton North will open its Fox Valley Association season at Kaukauna on Tuesday.
