Appleton North softball loses opener to Kaukauna

APPLETON – Kaukauna blew open a close game with 11 runs in the top of the sixth inning and defeated Appleton North 14-4 in a Fox Valley Association softball game Monday at North High School.
The game was the season-opener for both teams.
Kaukauna led 3-0 before erupting for the big sixth inning to put it away.
Karly Meredith struck out 14 in 5 1/3 innings to earn the win for the Ghosts.
North was held to three hits, one by Payton Willenkamp, who drove in two in bottom of the sixth inning for the Lightning.
Appleton North plays at Oshkosh West on Tuesday.
