Appleton North girls volleyball overcomes first set loss to top Kaukauna

APPLETON – Appleton North dropped the opening set before returning fire and sweeping the next three, taking down Kaukauna 3-1 in a Fox Valley Association girls volleyball match between two of the conference leaders.

Kaukauna (5-2 FVA) won the first set 25-23, before the Lightning (7-0) responded by winning three in a row, 25-19, 25-11, 25-20.

“Kaukauna played really well and pushed us tonight,” Appleton North coach Steve Scheuerell said. “I am proud of the adjustments the girls were able to implement and how they responded to adversity.”

Ella Demetrician had 35 kills, 15 digs and four blocks, and Emerson Van Lannen had 49 assists and two aces to pace the Lightning. Teegan Charapata added 12 kills and 15 digs, and Maggie Hahnke had 12 digs and four aces as well for Appleton North.

Appleton North maintains a one-match lead over Hortonville in the conference standings. The Lightning plays at Appleton East on Thursday before finishing the FVA season on Oct. 12 at home against Neenah.
