Appleton North girls volleyball claims WIAA Division 1 regional title with victory over West De Pere

APPLETON – The Appleton North girls volleyball team are regional champions after sweeping West De Pere 3-0 in a WIAA Division 1 regional final Saturday night at North High School.

The Lightning rolled to a 25-12, 25-11, 25-12, victory and moves on to sectionals.

The No. 1 seed Appleton North will take on Fox Valley Association rival No. 4 seed Kaukauna in one of two semifinal matches on Thursday at Green Bay Preble High School. No. 2 Bay Port and No. 3 Hortonville will play in the other semifinal. Game times are to be determined.

The winners of the semifinal matches will play a WIAA D-1 sectional final at Kimberly on Saturday, Oct. 28, for the right to advance to the 2023 WIAA State Girls Volleyball Tournament in Green Bay.

“Our girls executed at a high level tonight,” Appleton North coach Steve Scheuerell said. “It was great to get a win against a good West De Pere team. We are excited to be able to practice on Monday.”

Ella Demetrician had 15 kills and eight digs, and Emerson Van Lannen had 25 assists, seven kills, five digs and three service aces to lead the way for the Lightning.

Teegan Charapata added seven kills and six digs, Maggie Hahnke had eight digs and seven service aces, and Maddy Walschinski had three blocks as well for Appleton North.
