Appleton North girls take team title at Appleton West Terror Cross Country Invitational

NEENAH – The Appleton North girls had three top-seven finishers, including individual champion Sophia Scherwinski, and won the team title at the Appleton West Terror Cross Country Invitational on Friday at Winagamie Golf Course.
Scherwinski finished the 5-kilometer race in 19:22.3, 15 seconds ahead of Kimberly’s Madi Lotten, as the Lightning earned 52 points. Kimberly was a distant second with 76, while Appleton West took fifth with 162, Appleton East was ninth with 122, and Xavier took 10th with 233.
Eva Busch (sixth, 20:09.2) and Ava Helmbrecht (seventh, 20:19.5) added top-10 finishes for Appleton North.
Lucie Fouts placed third in 19:57.7 and Morgan Breed was 10th in 21:06.9 for Appleton West.
Appleton East’s top runner was Rosemaire Butler, who took 32nd in 22:03.3.
Kimberly won the boys team title with 58 points, with Ashwaubenon taking second with 71. Xavier finished sixth with 170 points, Appleton North was eighth with 184, Appleton East 10th with 294 and Appleton West did not have a complete team.
Ashwaubenon’s Ryan Jadin was the boys champion, running in 17:03.5, 18 seconds in front of Oshkosh West’s Carter Crowe.
Braden Walters was 18th in 17:58.9 and Jacob McGinn placed 28th in 18:21.4 for Appleton North’s top finishes.
Xavier’s top runners were Will Sullivan (19th, 17:59.1) and Elijah Gottaschalk (26th, 18.18.4).
Kegan Phalin led Appleton West’s runners, taking 27th in 18:18.8, while Appleton East’s top runner was Louie Mandich, who was 33rd in 18:29.2.
Appleton West and Appleton North will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 6, at the Neenah Invitational; Xavier’s next meet is the Winnebago Lutheran Invitational on Sept. 10 in Fond du Lac; and Appleton East is back in competition again at the Bay Port Invitational on Sept. 12.
