Appleton North girls sweep top three spots, take team title at Pulaski Cross Country Invitational

PULASKI – The Appleton North girls cross country team earned the top three spots and won the team title at the Red Raider Invitational on Thursday at Pulaski High School.

Eva Busch won the girls 5-kilometer race in 18:18.2, just one second ahead of teammate Sophia Scherwinski (18:19.8). Ava Helmbrecht placed third in 18:32.7 for the Lightning, which finished with 45 points, well ahead of second-place Little Chute (76). Appleton West ended up seventh with 185 points.

Lucie Fouts led Appleton West, taking seventh in 19:01.6, and Morgan Breed was 17th in 19:42.1 as well for the Terrors.

Sophie Busch finished 19th (19:44), Audry Dehlinger 20th (19:45) and Amber Ziemer 21st (19:46) for the Lightning.

The boys race was won by Joseph Hunt of Green Bay Notre Dame in 15:44.7, 13½ seconds in front of Jacob Nuthals of Green Bay Preble.

Preble won the team title with 22 points, with Pulaski a distant second with 105. Appleton North was eighth with 213 and Appleton West 14th with 356.

Jacob McGinn placed 41st (17:19), Spencer Gremban 42nd (17:20) and Marek Danelski 43rd (17:23) for Appleton North.

Kegan Phalin topped the Appleton West boys, taking 35th in 17:09.8.

Appleton North will compete at the Fond du Lac Invitational at Rolling Meadows Golf Course on Friday. Appleton West’s next meet is Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Kimberly Invitational.
