Appleton North girls basketball knocks off state-ranked West De Pere

APPLETON – The Appleton North girls basketball team ended a four-game losing streak with a hard-fought 46-44 win over West De Pere in a nonconference game Tuesday night at North High School.
Avery Werfal had a double-double with 20 points and 17 rebounds, and Tay Maass chipped in 10 points for the Lightning.
Appleton North was only 13-for-40 from the field but scored 20 points at the free throw line (20-for-35) to knock off previously unbeaten West De Pere (6-1), which was ranked No. 7 in this week’s Wissports.net Division 2 state poll.
North (2-4) hosts Appleton West on Friday as part of a boys-girls doubleheader. The boys game starts at 6 p.m. with the girls game to follow at approximately at 7:45 p.m.
