APPLETON – Kaukauna scored a first-quarter touchdown and that proved to be enough as the Ghosts shut out Appleton North 7-0 in a Fox Valley Association football game Friday night at North High School.
Finnley Doriot threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Danny Poor II in the opening quarter for the game’s only score as the Ghosts improve to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the FVA. North drops out of a three-way tie for second place, falling to 5-2 and 3-2 in conference play.
North outgained Kaukauna 293-184, and held the turnover advantage 2-1, but couldn’t find the end zone as it was 0-for-7 on fourth-down tries.
Lightning quarterback Luke Kritzer went 16-for-25 for 198 yards and Gavin Mattson hauled in five balls for 93 yards to pace the North offense. Jack Robinson added 47 yards rushing and caught three passes for 18 yards for the Lightning.
Aiden Reardon had 66 yards rushing for Kaukauna.
Kimberly’s 21-0 shutout of Neenah hands Kaukauna sole possession of second place, one game behind the Papermakers. Kaukauna will host Kimberly next Friday, Oct. 6, while Appleton North plays at Appleton East. Both games start at 7 p.m.
