Appleton North finishes second at UW-Oshkosh Girls Large School Indoor Track Invitational

OSHKOSH – Appleton North had 12 top-eight finishes to placed second in the team standings at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Girls Large School Indoor Track Invitational on Monday at the Kolf Sports Center.
North had three runner-up finishes as Sophia Scherwinski took second in the 1,600 meters in 5:27.81, just 1/100th of a second behind winner Grace Chelberg of Shawano; Nora Wadell finished second in the pole vault with a vault of 11 feet; and the 800 relay team of Emily Thompson, Tarynne Pettinger, Ashley Parrish and Addison Funk was second in 1:52.31.
The Lightning had three third-place finishes as well – the 3,200 relay team of Sophie Busch, Ava Helmbrecht, Lauren Podlasek and Amber Ziemer (10:31.29); the 1,600 relay team of Bush, Helmbrecht, Funk and Makenzi Krueger (4:25.63); and Bella Tabbert in the triple jump (33-5).
West De Pere took the team title with 88 points, with North second with 65. Appleton East also competed at the meet and placed 15th with 11 points.
East senior Mikayla Koenig took second in the shot put with a toss of 36-7½, and the 3,200 relay team of Audrey Loritz, Molly Peterson, Addison Baier and Rosie Butler placed sixth in 11:07.74.
