Appleton North finishes 4-3, Xavier 3-4 at Homestead Joust girls volleyball tournament

MEQUON – The Xavier and Appleton North girls volleyball teams each went 3-4 at the 24-team Homestead Joust tournament on Friday and Saturday at Mequon Homestead High School.

Xavier swept matches 2-0 against Lake Country Lutheran, Waukesha West and Brookfield East, and lost to Homestead, Sussex Hamilton, Oconomowoc and Menomonee Falls.

Appleton North opened play on Friday going 1-2, defeating Kettle Moraine Lutheran 25-15, 18-25, 15-10, before losing to Franklin 24-26, 25-18, 17-15, and Slinger 25-18, 25-16.

On Saturday, North defeated Howards Grove 25-18, 25-22; Milwaukee St. Thomas More 25-16, 25-22; and Lakeside Lutheran 25-19, 25-23; while losing to Menomonee Falls 25-18, 25-13.

Setter Sydney Neilitz had 113 assists and 13 service aces in Xavier’s seven matches, while Grace Hackl led the defense with 72 digs.

Madison Daley racked up 43 kills and 23 digs, Ali Tylinski added 31 kills, 18 digs and five aces, Rose Kendall had 18 kills, and Elle Downs had 16 kills and 12 blocks as well for Xavier.

Lydia Koshuta had 83 assists and 33 digs, Hannah Moua added 63 assists, Teegan Charapata had a team-best 80 kills and 53 digs, and Chloe North had 50 digs and 11 aces for the Lightning.

Both teams open its respective conference seasons on Thursday with Xavier hosting Shawano in a Bay Conference matchup, and Appleton North playing at home against Hortonville in a Fox Valley Association contest. Both matches start at 7 p.m.
