Appleton North boys volleyball finishes second at Brookfield East Invite

BROOKFIELD – Appleton North won four of five matches to place second at the Brookfield East Invitational on Saturday.

The Lightning, ranked second in this week’s Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association state poll, defeated New Berlin United 25-21, 25-16, and Glendale Nicolet 33-31, 25-9, in pool play, before taking care of No. 9 Kettle Moraine 25-15, 25-21, to reach the semifinals.

In the final four matchup, North came from behind to beat No. 5 Middleton 22-25, 25-15, 25-10, but lost in the championship match to No. 4 Milwaukee Marquette 22-25, 25-23, 15-12.

Connor Cantrell had 110 assists, Ben Brinkman had 28 kills, and Alex Ramus had 41 digs to lead North in those categories.

Jack Keesling added 18 kills, Grant Hardy chipped in 10 kills, and Ben Griffith had 23 digs for the Lightning.

Appleton North plays a Fox Valley Association match at Fond du Lac on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
