Appleton North boys basketball rolls to win in season-opener at Wausau West

WAUSAU – Grant Hardy scored 22 of his game-high 29 points in the first half as the Appleton North boys basketball team opened its season with a resounding 84-55 win over Wausau West in a nonconference game at Wausau West High School on Tuesday night.

Abraham Tomori added 16 points, Will Sweeney chipped in 12, and Nate Ramus scored 11 for the Lightning, who made 12 3-pointers in the victory.

Appleton North shot 54 percent from the field (34-for-63) and were 12 of 26 from 3-point range, with Sweeney, Ramus and Hardy each making three shots from deep.

Appleton North opens its Fox Valley Association schedule at Hortonville on Thursday as part of a girls-boys doubleheader. The girls game starts at 6 p.m., with the boys to follow at approximately 7:45 p.m.
