Appleton North boys basketball dominates second half, stuns No. 3-ranked Oshkosh North

APPLETON – The Appleton North boys basketball team overcame a seven-point halftime deficit with a huge second half and downed No. 3-ranked Oshkosh North 71-63 in a Fox Valley Association boys basketball game Friday night at Appleton North High School.

The Lightning trailed 31-24 at halftime before ripping off a 23-2 run in the second half to take control. Appleton North made 14 of 20 free throws and six 3-pointers in the second half to pull out the victory.

Appleton North (5-0, 4-0 Fox Valley Association) remains the only undefeated in the conference and sends the Spartans (3-1 overall and FVA) to their first loss of the season.

Will Sweeney, Nate Ramus and Abraham Tomori each scored 11 points in the second-half run for the Lightning. Tomori had a team-high 16 points, while Sweeney, Ramus and Grant Hardy all scored 14.

Zay Mitchell all scorers with 19 points for Oshkosh North.

Appleton North hosts Shawano for a nonconference game on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
