APPLETON – Griffin Stan drove in Colin Reddy with the game’s only run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Appleton North baseball team defeated Oshkosh North 1-0 on Tuesday at Appleton North High School.
Oshkosh North’s Zach Kiffmeyer and Appleton North’s Logan Hudson matched zeroes on the mound through seven innings, with Kiffmeyer striking out six and Hudson five.
Hudson allowed just one hit before giving way to Cash Christianson, who worked around two walks to strike out the side in the top of the eighth for the Lightning (7-2, 4-1 FVA).
Nathan Ramus led off the bottom of the eighth with a single, Reddy reached on an error and Matthew Hietpas was intentionally walked to load the bases. Ramus was thrown out at home on a wild pitch, with the other runners moving up. Stan followed with a single to left to plate the game-winning run.
Hietpas finished with two of Appleton North’s five hits.
Appleton North plays at Hortonville on Thursday at 5 p.m. The two teams, along with Kimberly, are in a three-way tie for first place in the FVA at 4-1.
