APPLETON – Appleton North pitcher Logan Hudson threw a complete game two-hitter to lead the Lightning to a 5-1 win over crosstown rival Appleton West in a Fox Valley Association baseball game Tuesday at the Nienhaus Sports Complex.
Hudson struck out two and walked two while giving up just two hits, a triple to Dimitry Edmunds – who scored West’s only run in the second inning – and a single to Michael Gwiazdon later in that same inning.
Appleton North scored twice in the opening inning as Bennett Popp led off with a triple and scored on a groundout by William Hoerner and a two-out error gave the Lightning another run and a 2-0 lead.
After the Terrors (2-6, 2-5 FVA) scored in the second, Appleton North (7-2, 6-1 FVA) pulled away with a three-run fifth, which included a pair of sacrifice flies by Hudson and Alex Ramus.
Appleton North will be back at home Thursday for a conference matchup with Neenah. Appleton West will head to Fond du Lac on Thursday. Both games start at 4:30 p.m.
