Appleton North baseball opens season with FVA win over Kaukauna

APPLETON – The Appleton North baseball team picked up a 9-2 win over Kaukauna in its season-opener Monday at Appleton North High School.
Matthew Hietpas picked up the pitching win, allowing one run in four innings with six strikeouts, and Ryan Tesch earned the save with one run given up over the final three innings for the Lightning.
Alex Ramus had an RBI double and scored on a single by Hietpas in the opening inning for North.
After Kaukauna scored a run in the second, the Lightning plated three runs in the bottom of the frame, with Ramus knocking in a run with a single and William Hoerner smacking a triple to score another and give North a 5-1 lead.
North finished off the scoring with two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Bennett Popp, Ramus and Hietpas each had two hits for Appleton North, which had 10 in all.
Appleton North travels to Oshkosh West for another FVA game Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
