Appleton North baseball crushes Fond du Lac

APPLETON – Appleton North scored six times in the first two innings and rolled to an 11-1 win over Fond du Lac in a Fox Valley Association baseball game Monday at North High School.

Fond du Lac (6-3, 3-3 FVA) scored first in the opening frame as Conner Klapperich had a leadoff triple and came across on a single by Kam Ernst. That would be all the Cardinals would muster against North pitcher Matthew Hietpas, who struck out five, walked five and did not allow another hit the remainder of the game, which ended after five innings via the 10-run rule.

North (6-2, 5-1 FVA) got to work right away, scoring four times in the bottom of the first on RBI singles by William Hoerner and Brandon Schopf, and a two-run double from Levi Watts.

Schopf tallied two more RBI in the second inning and Watts had a solo home run in a five-run fifth that finished off the win for the Lightning, their fourth in a row.

Schopf finished 4-for-4 with four RBI, and Watts and Bennett Popp both went 3-for-3 in the victory for North.

Appleton North will play at Appleton West at the Nienhaus Sports Complex on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
