Appleton North, Appleton West/Kimberly and Appleton East all earn state qualifiers at WIAA Division 1 girls swimming & diving sectional

NEENAH – The Appleton North, Appleton West/Kimberly and Appleton East girls swimming and diving teams will be well represented at the state meet after a number of top finishes at the WIAA Division 1 sectional on Saturday at Neenah High School.
The winner of each event at the six Division 1 sectionals, as well the next 18 finishers in each event statewide, earned spots at the 2023 WIAA State Girls Swimming & Diving Championships at Waukesha South High School on Saturday, Nov. 11.
Appleton North had two swimmers qualify for state in four events as the relay team of Afton Scoresby, Ana Flanagan, Allison Greeneway and Chloe Allen won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:48.44 and the 200 freestyle relay in 1:38.60.
Greeneway, a senior, and Flanagan, a junior, also qualified in two individual events. Greeneway won the 200 individual medley in 2:07.22 and placed second in the 100 butterfly in 56.86 seconds, while Flanagan won the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.97 and placed fourth in the 50 freestyle in 24.36 seconds.
Appleton West/Kimberly had four girls qualify in four events. The 200 medley relay team of Elise Pasholk, Gaby Dilley, Alaina Hagany and Colleen DeBruin placed fifth in 1:52.27 to earn the final state qualifying berth in that event.
Pasholk, a senior, also placed second in the 200 freestyle (1:57.34) and the 500 freestyle (5:15.83), and DeBruin, a junior, finished second in the 100 freestyle (54.26) to qualify in those events.
Appleton East’s lone state qualifier is Ava Strassburg, who won the diving competition with a score of 347.40.
Diving begins at 9:30 a.m. and the swimming races start at 2:30 p.m. at the state meet on Saturday.
