Appleton East’s LaChapell among first-team picks to 2023-24 All-Fox Valley Association Boys Basketball Team

Appleton East senior guard Joey LaChapell was a unanimous first-team selection to the 2023-24 All-Fox Valley Association Boys Basketball Team, as voted on by the 10 conference coaches following the season.

LaChapell, who also was named to the FVA All-Defensive Team, led the conference in scoring at 26.3 points per game as he shot 52 percent from the field, 83 percent from the free throw line, and made 71 3-pointers. He scored 30 or more points 10 times this past season, including a career-high 43 against Kaukauna on Jan. 23.

Joining LaChapell on the first team were unanimous selections Stevie Clark and Xzavion Mitchell of Oshkosh North, and Brady Corso of Neenah, as well as Ethan Joling of Hortonville, Keegan Van Kauwenberg of Kaukauna and Thomas Meyers of Kimberly. Mitchell, a junior, was named FVA Player of the Year.

Mitchell averaged 25.7 points, 8.6 rebounds and 3 assists per game for Oshkosh North.

Appleton North had two second-team selections in sophomores Nathan Ramus and Will Sweeney.

Ramus, who was also picked to the conference’s All-Defensive Team, averaged 9.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game, while Sweeney led the Lightning in scoring at 13.6 points per game and shot 46 percent from 3-point range with a team-high 50 makes from long range.

Appleton North’s Grant Hardy and Abraham Tomori, Appleton East’s Cade Prestigiacomo, and Appleton West’s Lucas Downs and Parrion Peace were among the honorable mention choices.

Oshkosh North’s Brad Weber was named Coach of the Year after leading the Spartans to the FVA championship.
