Appleton East upends Eau Claire Memorial in WIAA Division 1 boys basketball regional semifinal

EAU CLAIRE – The Appleton East boys basketball team made its long trip to Eau Claire worth it as the No. 13 seed Patriots upset No. 4 Eau Claire Memorial 58-52 in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal Friday night at Memorial High School.
Joey LaChapell had more than half of East’s points, pouring in 33 in the victory.
Appleton East (11-14), winners of eight of its last nine games, will play a Division 1 regional final at Kaukauna (18-7) on Saturday at 7 p.m. Kaukauna swept the Patriots in Fox Valley Association play this season, winning by 20 at East on Dec. 8 and 86-82 in a dogfight at Kaukauna on Jan. 23.
Eau Claire Memorial finishes its season with an 18-7 record.
