Appleton East softball rolls to shutout over Appleton West

APPLETON – Elizabeth Jacobs hits a grand slam home run to finish off a 17-0 victory for Appleton East over Appleton West in a Fox Valley Association softball game Thursday at East High School.

The Patriots (2-3 overall and FVA) scored seven times in the second inning and piled up eight more in the fourth without recording an out, with Jacobs’ grand slam ending the game due to the 15-run rule.

Miley Bee had two hits and two RBI, and Opal Sparkman and Emma Behling both scored three times in the win for Appleton East.

Kat Swick picked up the four-inning complete-game victory on the mound for the Patriots, striking out five and walking two, while allowing just two singles – to Morgan Baehman and Trinity Smigielski.

Both teams return to action Friday as East will play at Neenah and West will host Appleton North at the Nienhaus Sports Complex. Both games start at 5 p.m.
