Appleton East softball falls in WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal at Kimberly

KIMBERLY – Kathryn VanHandel had three hits and five RBI to lead No. 7 seed Kimberly to a 12-2 win over No. 10 Appleton East in a WIAA Division 1 softball regional semifinal Tuesday at Sunset Park.

The Papermakers scored multiple runs in each of their four at-bats and cruised to the victory, which ended after 4½ innings via the 10-run rule.

Sophie Girard added three hits and three RBI for Kimberly (15-12), which moves on to a D-1 regional final at No. 2 seed Ashwaubenon (25-1) on Thursday.

Maddie Heisler had two of Appleton East’s four hits, and Grace Fecteau knocked in a run with a double for the Patriots, who finish their season with a 7-15 record.
