Appleton East girls basketball uses strong second-half surge to defeat Fond du Lac

APPLETON – Ella Sweeney scored 13 of her 18 points in the second half to help power the Appleton East girls basketball team to a 74-58 win over Fond du Lac in a Fox Valley Association game Friday night at East High School.
Tori Neubauer had a team-high 21 points for the Patriots, who improve to 5-1 overall and even their FVA record at 1-1.
“East came out of the halftime break and quickly turned a four-point game into a 12-point lead, and the pulled away the second half,” Appleton East coach Brian Paschen said. “Strong defense, better offensive decision making and rebounding keyed the run.”
Sweeney made three 3-pointers in the second half run for East, which made eight in the game. Neubauer also had three makes from long range. Lindsey Gerard chipped in 13 points, nine in the second half, for the Patriots.
Brooklynn Butler had 18 points and made three of Fond du Lac’s nine 3-pointers in the loss. The Cardinals are now 0-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Appleton East will enjoy a week off before playing another FVA game at Kaukauna on Friday, Dec. 8. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
