HORTONVILLE – Torie Neubauer poured in 23 points to help the sixth-seeded Appleton East girls basketball team to a 59-50 win over No. 3 seed Hortonville in a WIAA Division 1 regional final Saturday night at Hortonville High School.

The win puts the Patriots (17-8) into the D-1 sectional semifinals against No. 2 seed Stevens Point (22-4) on Thursday at D.C. Everest High School.

The win was Appleton East’s second over Hortonville in the past month and continues it torrid streak since the turn of the new year as the Patriots are 14-2 since a Jan. 3 loss at Hortonville.

Neubauer made 6 of 8 free throws down the stretch to finish off the win for East.

Ella Jazdzewski added 10 points and Ella Sweeney had nine for the Patriots.

Kardyn Peppler led Hortonville (17-9) with 16 points, but just five after halftime.
