Appleton East girls basketball outlasts Appleton North in regular-season finale

APPLETON – The Appleton East girls basketball team continued its torrid pace heading into the WIAA playoffs as it wrapped up the regular season with a 77-60 victory over Appleton North on Thursday at North High School.
The Patriots opened up a 41-25 lead by halftime and were able to stay comfortably in front the rest of the way as they won their five game in a row to end the regular season.
Torie Neubauer hit four 3-pointers and scored 24 points to lead four East players in double figures. Ella Sweeney added 15 points, Ella Jazdzewski 14 and Lilly Meulemans 11 for the Patriots (15-8, 13-5 FVA).
Tay Maas scored a game-high 25 points and Avery Werfal added 21 points for the Lightning, who finish the regular season at 9-14 overall and 5-13 in the FVA.
Both teams will open WIAA postseason play with Division 1 regional semifinals on Friday, Feb. 28, as Appleton East hosts Oshkosh West and Appleton North travels to Neenah.
