Appleton East girls basketball holds off Oshkosh North

APPLETON – The Appleton East girls basketball team continued its sizzling start to the season, making 11 3-pointers on its way to a hard-fought 71-63 win over Oshkosh North in Fox Valley Association action Tuesday night at East High School.

Freshman Ella Sweeney had three 3-pointers and scored a team-high 18 points, and Lilly Meulemans had four 3s and added 14 points in the win for the Patriots, who are ranked No. 10 in this week’s Wissports.net Division 1 state coaches poll.

Torie Neubauer chipped in 13 points and was one of five East players to make a 3-pointer in the game.

Appleton East went 8-for-14 at the free throw line in the second half to finish off the win and improve to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the Fox Valley Association.

Ava Hanson led Oshkosh North (4-3, 1-3 FVA) with 23 points.

Appleton East hosts No. 2-ranked Neenah at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
