Appleton East girls basketball holds off late run to top Bay Port

APPLETON – The Appleton East girls basketball team jumped out to a 13-point halftime lead and held off a late run from Bay Port to earn a 48-44 nonconference win on Tuesday night at Appleton East High School.
Lindsey Gerard went 6-for-7 at the free throw line and scored a team-high 11 points in a balanced scoring attack for the Patriots, who are now 13-9 this season.
Jenna Ott added nine points and Lilly Meulemans eight in the win for the Patriots.
Ellie McDermid had 23 points and 11 rebounds for Bay Port (6-17).
Appleton East hosts Appleton North as part of a girls-boys doubleheader on Friday. The girls game begins at 6 p.m., with the boys to follow at approximately 7:45 p.m. The Patriots final regular-season game will be next Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Kimberly, before opening postseason play with a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal at Superior on Feb. 23.
