Appleton East girls basketball holds off late run to defeat Kaukauna

APPLETON – The Appleton East girls basketball team won its third-straight game and second in two nights, holding off a second-half rally to defeat Kaukauna 59-55 in a Fox Valley Association game Tuesday at East High School.
Appleton East, which won at Appleton North on Monday, raced out to a 36-27 lead by halftime only to see the Ghosts mount a comeback and close in on the lead, only to fall four points short.
Emma Sweeney poured in 18 points, Torie Neubauer added 13 and Jenna Ott 12 in the victory for East, which is now 11-5 overall and 7-4 in the FVA. Ott made four of the Patriots’ 11 3-pointers in the win.
Addison Baumgart had five 3-pointers in the first half and finished with 20 points, and Josie Djupstrom had three of her four 3-pointers in the second half and ended up with 13 points for Kaukauna (6-10, 4-7 FVA).
Both teams are back in action Friday with East traveling to Oshkosh North and Kaukauna hosting Neenah.
