Appleton East football uses ground game to top Green Bay Southwest

GREEN BAY – Appleton East racked up 311 yards on the ground and defeated Green Bay Southwest 28-21 in its 2024 football season opener Thursday night at Southwest High School.
Damian Fischer ran for 90 yards and a touchdown, Alex Thompson added 77 yards rushing and two scores, Brandon Moua had 60 yards on the ground, Kyreese White tallied 52 yards on just three carries, and Brody Snyder chipped in 32 yards and a TD for the Patriots, who ran the ball a total of 47 times.
Thompson added a two-point run and Ben Smestad kicked two extra points for Appleton East.
Birk Kozlowicz led the East defense with nine tackles, and Eli Schinske had two of the Patriots’ five quarterback sacks.
Appleton East will play its home opener Thursday, Aug. 29, against Kettle Moraine.
